A dog halted a top-flight football match in Argentina after it ran onto the pitch and defecated on the grass in front of stunned players and officials.

The naughty pooch evaded security and ran onto the green where it made its feeling clear about the game between Rosario Central and River Plate.

The cheeky mutt used the football pitch as a toilet on the 70th minute in front of thousands of fans before being chased around by staff trying to catch it.The match was stopped for five minutes as stewards and players attempted to get the dog off the pitch on Sunday night.

Eventually it was carried off the pitch while one unfortunate official had to clear up the mess the dog left behind.

The match was being played in Argentina's top football division and both teams had the chance to go top of the table.

The game was being played at Rosario Central's ground the Estadio Gigante de Arroyito which has a capacity crowd of more than 41,000.
