And there’s even an official Christmas Jumper Day taking place tomorrow.
Previously they were only worn as an ironic fashion statement or because they had been given as a present by an easily-offended relative.
But people discovered that they actually liked a festive print and they are now among the most popular items to wear over Christmas.
Top designers are bringing out their versions, High Street shops are packed with fabulous examples and this year it seems to be the gaudier, the better when it comes to a Christmas top.
So we roped in Geordie Shore star Charlotte-Letitia Crosby to model our pick of the High Street versions.
She says: “I love a Christmas jumper.
“This time of year is all about dressing up and getting mortal.
“My favourite of these is the penguin one from Debenhams.”
The current Celebrity Big Brother champ also revealed how she has already been getting in the festive spirit.
“We had a Geordie Shore Christmas night out last week and got very merry,” laughs Charlotte, 24.
“Christmas Eve is my favourite day of the year. It’s the best night to go out so I always hit my local spots in Sunderland and wear my Xmas jumper. Everyone’s in a good mood.
“I hate New Year’s Eve but I love Christmas Eve.
“Christmas Day I’m usually very hungover.
“My mam has to drag us out of bed because I’m too ill to get up on time and then she wants me to dress pretty and I just want to stay in my pyjamas and feel sorry for myself.
And there’s a special reason for Charlotte to celebrate this year.
She says: “It’s been a great one.
“Life has been a complete whirlwind since winning Celebrity Big Brother.
“I’m so happy I did and am pleased with all the other opportunities I’m getting off the back of it.”
Happy Charlotte adds: “I think I won because I just acted myself. Most of them try too hard.
“I never have any regrets if I’m myself."
