Top of the Tweets: Football is most popular subject on social media

FOOTBALL is the most popular subject debated on Twitter, new figures reveal.
Seven of the top 10 spikes in activity on the social networking site this year were caused by banter about matches.
Top of the list was Manchester United’s 2-1 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid in March.
Three England internationals also made the list.
In second place overall was revellers seeing in the new year, while 26-year-old tennis ace Andy Murray winning Wimbledon final came third.
Boyband One Direction were responsible for three of the top five most retweeted messages, thanks to their army of hysterical fans.
But the world’s most popular message, with 408,000 retweets, was Glee star Lea Michele, 27, thanking her fans for their support following the death of her co-star and partner Cory Monteith.
Meanwhile, Olympic diver Tom Daley, 19, made another list – YouTube’s top videos of the year.
His revelation he has a gay lover, which was posted less than two weeks ago, is the seventh most-viewed clip.
The most popular video in the UK, with nearly 89million hits, was the comedy sketch How Animals Eat Their Food.
Singer Miley Cyrus, 21, had two of the top five most popular music videos.
